New Croquet Director at Carrickmines

The Croquet Committee is delighted to announce that Fiachra Carroll has agreed to take over as the Club’s next Croquet Director.

Fiachra is 31, originally from Greystones and now living in Ashford, Co. Wicklow. He went to East Glendalough School in Wicklow Town and then to Trinity College Dublin.  Fiachra took up Croquet when he was about 15. Russell Harris, one of his teachers, organised a module for transition year students to play on the lawns in Newcastle Croquet Club, and Fiachra was hooked!

He had a brief tenure as Secretary of the Croquet Association of Ireland before he moved abroad to work in Abu Dhabi. He returned to Ireland in 2016 and worked as an Area Manager for Aldi. He currently runs The Secret Bookstore with his father, who manages the shop in Dublin while Fiachra runs everything online.
He is looking forward to getting more involved in croquet, not just playing more. “It’s a wonderful sport for everyone and anyone and as someone who started playing from a young age, I particularly look forward to getting more younger people involved.”

Fiachra will start his part time job as Croquet Director in early October. He is excited about meeting all the croquet playing members at Carrickmines and encouraging those who have not yet tried the game to give it a go!
